Twelve
Fire Safety Tips
|
1. Keep matches
away from children. Teach young children about the dangers of playing
with fire.
2. Don't smoke
in bed.
3. Have smoke
alarms on each level of you house, and inside and right outside
your bedroom.
4. Don't leave
anything being cooked unsupervised. If you need to leave the kitchen
set a timer to remind you to come back and check on your food.
5. Click
here to consider the following questions before deciding to
purchase or use a fire extinguisher.
6. Consider
installing a home sprinkler system.
7. Apply proper
caution when using portable space heaters, and only use according
to the manufacturers directions. Keep any combustible materials
such as paper, clothes, bedding, drapes, couches, etc. at least
three feet away.
8. Don't run
electrical cords under rugs in high traffic areas, where they can
become damaged and frayed.
10. Only use
appliances with three prongs in three prong outlets.
11. Don't overload
electrical cords.
12. Be careful
about purchasing used appliances at thrift stores or garage sales.
Some may be quite old and not up to modern safety standards. Only
buy and use electrical appliances evaluated by a nationally recognized
laboratory, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
