I
can think of no more stirring symbol of man's humanity to
man than a fire engine.

Fire Safety
Tips
In the U.S.,
approximtely two thirds of all fire deaths occur in home that either
do not have smoke detectors or have smoke detectors that are not
working. You can improve your odds of surviving a fire in your home
inexpensively by having properly installed and working smoke detectors.
Smoke detectors
should be placed on every level of a home, inside bedrooms and outside
sleeping areas. Try not to place them too close to the oven, stove
or fireplace to void false alarms. Test your smoke detectors regularly.
Once a month is recommended. Replace the batteries at least once
a year. In our family we change the batteries in our detectors ech
time we reset the clocks for daylight savings times.
Fire Prevention
Tips
Always keep
on eye on any food being heated up. Use a timer to remind you to
come back and check on your food if you need to leave the kitchen
while cooking or baking. Foods being cooked and forgotten about
cause the majority of kitchen fires in homes.
Keep your children
away from stoves and ovens, and teach them to keep a safe distance
from any potentially hot appliances.
Turn pot handles
inward when cooking on the stove so no one walks by and accidentally
walks into the handles.
Don't wear long
flowing clothes when cooking to avoid catching your clothes on fire.
Save the panchos and shawls for when you are done cooking.
